janbrittain@williamsonschapel.org

Williamson's Chapel UMC welcomes Rev. Jan Brittain as our new Senior Pastor with her first Sunday in the pulpit on October 9th.

Having served in the ministry for over 20 years, Pastor Jan's (as she likes to be called) statement that she has "a passion for preaching" is truly borne out. In 1989, she was sent by Special Appointment to serve three churches in Bristol, England. She returned to the States in 1991 to serve at Salem / Clark's Chapel Charge, (less than 100 members) in Asheville. In 1994, she was called to serve Salem UMC in Asheville (250 members). In 1998, she was called to serve at New Salem UMC in Statesville (550 members). From 2003 to the present, she has served Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro as their Senior Pastor where she leads a 2,100 member congregation. During her career she was also Delegate to 2000, 2004, and 2008 General Conferences of the United Methodist Church and the Conference Council of Finance and Administration. She is also a Trustee for Moses Cone Health System, Greensboro NC.

Rev. Jan's educational background is exceptional. She graduated from Pfeiffer College, summa cum laude, in 1977, with a BA in Christian Education and Business Administration. She was noted in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, received the Pearl Fisher Citizenship Award from the Pfeiffer Faculty and was chosen Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, in 1989 with honors. Rev. Jan also received the Faculty Award for Highest Academic Excellence and the Faculty Award for Social Concerns.

Rev. Jan is the daughter of Rev. Tom and Jean Brittain, South Carolina Conference. In 1979 she married Cecil Donahue, who is also an Elder in WNCC. They have two sons, Wade and Riley. They lost Wade in a car accident in 2008. Their youngest son, Riley is about to be married at the end of this month.
