The Outreach Team consists of people who are committed to serving Jesus Christ by serving His people, most specifically the least, the last, and the lost. We have been very intentional about working to reach out into the community and beyond and to involve as many in the congregation who are ready to give of their time and talents. Please join us in our efforts to be servants and disciples for Christ.

Major projects include monthly mission emphasis, work with Winnie Hooper Center and Barium Springs, School Supply and Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, Great Week of Service, and Angel Tree. Look for details of our first International Mission Trip.

Oh Uganda – Land of Beauty

Construction is continuing on the four orphanage buildings. They are almost complete and will have children living in them within a few months time. It’s amazing to see how quickly a vision can become a reality. God who makes good plans and gives hope for the future is actively working through his people.

In addition, preparations have been made for the October 2011 team to go in March of this year. This trip was temporarily delayed. But now we are excited to be going back and working alongside Pastor Geoffrey in his ministry in Uganda. Please keep this team in your prayers as they prepare themselves spiritually, mentally and physically for this journey.

Nebbie district is located in North Western Uganda, and like much of Uganda, they are experiencing an overwhelming orphan crisis. This crisis is largely due to two factors: The HIV/AIDS level and the civil upheaval and violence brought on by the Lord’s Resistance Army in the area. Currently, one in four children in Nebbi under the age of 15 has lost at least one parent from AIDS. And an estimated 4,000 Ugandan children are now believed to be orphaned due to
the war. Nebbi accounts for 20% of those children. Both of these factors have led to an astronomical number of orphans, many of which have watched one or both of their parents die.

The death of a parent often leads to the break up of the family with the children living with an aged grandparent, another relative, or even on their own in the streets. At this point, the downward spiral of poverty is practically irreversible, especially as the great majority of orphans do not complete primary school and have no training that would equip them for anything other than low-paid laboring work.

Acres of Hope is the vision of a local pastor, Geoffrey, and another
local pastor, Stanley ,to help these children out of this cycle of poverty and give them a chance at life. Acres of Hope has purchased land and developed plans to house and care for these orphans. There is currently space for 4 actual homes on the first parcel of land. These homes
will house one mother and 8 children. The mother will be responsible for caring for the orphaned children. These children will receive love and care, Christian education, schooling, and help with food. There are plans for long term care, schooling, and ongoing support for all the children that are reached in this ministry.

Williamson’s Chapel is committed to walking this journey with Acres of Hope for years to come. This will mean that we give of our prayers, financial support, and time. There is so much need and so many ways that we can assist in the ministry that is already happening there. We ask that you continue to lift Acres of Hope, Geoffrey, Stanley, the children, and the community up in your prayers. The Christmas offering will assist in funding the pod houses for the children. Child sponsorship information will be coming shortly if you feel called to help on an individual level.

We plan to return to Nebbi Uganda in October 2012. Dates are tentatively set for October 12-20. The trip content will be largely determined after the March trip, but will include a children’s ministry, and possible medical component. If you feel called to participate in this partnership, sponsor a child, or go on one of the upcoming trips, please contact Kathy Warner at kathwarner@mi-connection.com or 704-500-2544.

Williamson’s Chapel and Habitat for Humanity

The United Methodist Men at Williamson’s Chapel welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate housing through Habitat for Humanity. Habitat homeowners purchase their houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgages while contributing hundreds of hours of sweat-equity labor, working on their house and the houses of others. Mortgage payments are placed in a revolving Fund for Humanity to finance the construction of even more houses. Volunteers and donors have made it possible for 369 people, including 224 children, to live in Habitat homes in Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville; 2100 people to live in Habitat Homes internationally. 2,567 people no longer live in sub-standard housing conditions due to Our Towns Habitat for Humanity’s efforts. (Statistics updated July 2005.) Our Towns Habitat for Humanity celebrated the dedication of the 100th Habitat home to be built locally since 1988. Williamson's Chapel will start building in October and participate on the 1st and 3rd Saturday's of each month.

How Do I Get Involved?

We believe "Hands On Missions" are essential to carrying out the Great Commission of Christ. Throughout the year, you will see and hear of various ways to be active in mission involvement.

Various members of the church volunteered at the Winnie Hooper Center in Mooresville and Barium Springs Home for Children in Troutman by hosting an Easter Party. Others volunteer on a regular basis in building homes for Habitat for Humanity and the Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

Our youth collaborate their efforts in providing Easter Baskets for children who are less fortunate and our shut ins. They also travel yearly on a mission trip to help others in need with construction, renovations of homes, etc.

Each Christ Connection Spiritual Formation Group works on a hands-on mission project as well. One group has adopted a shut-in family, another has adopted a local family in need and provides clothes, food, etc. for them.

Watch the weekly bulletin for hands on mission opportunities.
