Discipleship
At WCUMC we want all adults to be connected
in a small group of some kind! We offer a variety of topics such as Bible Studies, parenting classes, single support groups, Christian financial classes, book studies, marriage enrichment, GriefShare etc. Getting involved in a class or small group will help you get connected to other people in the church family and encourage your spiritual growth. We offer free childcare for many of our classes.
CHRIST CONNECTION SMALL GROUPS
Get Connected this year in a Small Group!
This fall we are starting several NEW Christ Connection Small Groups. We encourage you to take time from your busy schedule to reward yourself by getting involved in a Christ Connection Small Group. You will have a life changing experience by: developing 8 to 10 close church friends, growing in Biblical Knowledge and Prayer, using your spiritual gifts to serve others, and sharing Gods word with others. The groups usually meet weekly or twice a month. Some meet in homes, some at church. You can gather a group of friends and we will help you get going or we can help you find a group in your similar age and stage of life. This might just be what you are looking for!
We also are looking for Small Group Leaders (Hosts) for the new groups. The primary job of a leader/host is to organize and host the meetings. We will have a short training session to help you understand how easy it is to host a Small Group. Most study materials used will be DVD programs lead by experts with questions relating to the subjects for the group to discuss. So, if you like people and can facilitate a meeting, PLEASE CALL GENE ENGLE at 704-799-9635, glengle@aol.com or SUSAN FUQUAY at 704-664-3680, susanfuquay@williamsonschapel.org and become a Small Group member or host.

CHURCH GARDEN NEWS
The Williamsons Chapel Church Garden is up and growing! A cooperative effort of the Youth Ministry and a group of adult volunteers, this organic garden is composed of 11 raised beds that contain a variety of plants from tomatoes and squash to marigolds and herbs being raised without artificial chemicals.
The idea for a cooperative church garden was born during Earth Day festivities. Despite being a relatively last-minute effort, the plots are thriving under the watchful eye of members Lorena Hobart, Nancy Lindsey, Desi Willoughby, Carol Dorset, and Don and Julie Higgie, who take turns watering and nurturing the crops while the Youth are off on summer mission trips.
Garden Ministry leader Julie Higgie says that plans are being formulated to enlarge and improve the gardening area this fall and winter. Anyone who would like to be put on the waiting list for a plot can contact Julie at jchiggie@yahoo.com or call her at 704-877-4788.

Sponsor A Child Through Compassion
Be a part of our sister church in Kolkata, India, "Christ Mission" by sponsoring a child through Compassion.
When you sponsor a child, you are joining in a relationship with a particular child who will know your name, write to you, and treasure the thought that you care. You will pray for one another and be linked together through a connection that is far greater than just money.
Here at Williamsons Chapel we have the unique opportunity to sponsor children through Compassion at the Rose Merry Child Development Center. This center is connected to our sister church Christ Mission in India.
Your tax-deductible contribution of just $38 a month allows the staff at Compassion and our sister church to provide your sponsored child with
* Food and clean water
* Medical care
* Educational opportunities and materials
* Important life-skills training
* Cultural programs
Most important of all, your sponsored child will hear about Jesus Christ and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God.
Andrea Smith and Kathy Warner were able to experience how this works first hand when they visited India in March!
Children truly come to know Jesus through being a sponsored child. It makes ALL the difference in the world!
Contact Kathy Warner at kathwarner@mi-connection.com or 704-500-2544 for more information on child sponsorship and our ongoing India church-to-church mission.

WILLIAMSONS CHAPEL SCHOLARSHIP
Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church is committed to encouraging the young people who are part of our congregation in the pursuit of higher education. A family in the church has created an endowment fund, the earnings of which are used to provide a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior high school student to be applied to the tuition at a college of their choice. In order to be considered for the scholarship, the student must be a regular attendee or member of Williamson's Chapel UMC, complete an application and submit an essay. The application form and the essay requirements may be obtained at the desk in the narthex, from the church office, or on the Williamson's Chapel web site. Applications must be submitted by August 1.
(Note: Anyone may add to the endowment fund by simply designating it on your contribution envelope or check. If the fund grows sufficiently, it will be possible to provide more than one scholarship for deserving students. Granting of the scholarship is not based on need, but on the commitment of the student as demonstrated in the essay.)
